NAB launches probe against former Balochistan minister: sources

QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a probe against former food minister Balochistan, Asfandyar Kakar for misappropriation of Rs292 million.

Sources in NAB, on condition of anonymity told Dawn.com on Monday that Asfandyar Kakar had sold out 250,000 bags of 100kg wheat from the food department's godown located in Balochistan's Pishin district during 2012.

“Kakar appointed grade-6 employee as in charge of the godown,” they said, adding that in-charge of the godown had to be of grade-17 someone similar of assistant director food.

The sources also said that the director food had refused to obey the order of minister and grade-6's employee was appointed with the support of Secretary Food.

“The in-charge of godown was changed six times,” NAB sources said.

Apart from Kakar, the NAB has also initiated inquiry against five other officials. And they are likely to be arrested soon, they said.

Asfandyar Kakar was elected as an MPA on the ticket of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on PB-9 from Pishin district of Balochistan. Kakar was given the portfolio of food by former chief minister Nawab Aslam Raisani.

“We have all evidence against the accused and they would be arrested soon,” the sources added.
