‘No sign of the census’

Reference to your editorial ‘No sign of the census’ (Sept 19). Although our leaders talk about democracy, they display this spirit only at national and provincial levels by holding elections, but they avoid holding elections at the grassroots level.

Doesn’t the Constitution talk about the local bodies elections? Is there any need to have any court verdict for holding any local bodies elections when the Supreme Court has already issued the directive to hold the polls?

Our political leaders forget that people have always enjoyed the grassroots-level elections during the military rule which the democratic governments have always denied.

Can we say that our political leadership is very much fond of dictatorial behaviour and doesn’t want to share power with the people, and they take revenge from the people?
