Women’s cricket team to be honoured

KARACHI: Sports promoter Nadeem Omar said on Tuesday that gold medals will be presented to Pakistan women’s cricketers for retaining their title at the ongoing Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in the final to clinch gold medal and in the process retained the title they won at the 2010 Asiad in Guangzhou, China.

Nadeem, who is director of Omar Associates, said a glittering ceremony will be held to honour the national side in the near future.

“Pakistan have been doing really well under the leadership of Bushra Aitzaz (chairperson of PCB women’s wing] and we hope that the team will continue to perform well in future as well,” Nadeem said.

“We have a women’s team playing for Omar Associates. We are keen to promote women’s cricket in the country on an equal footing just like we do for men. And whoever does well for the national team in future, he or she will be rewarded for their performances.”

Nadeem further said that Omar Associates will do their bits for promoting the game and lauded efforts of Shaharyar M. Khan, who has emphasised to improved school and women’s cricket specifically since becoming the PCB chairman.
