Punjab resignations: PTI members to meet Speaker together

LAHORE: A letter by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s parliamentary party in Punjab was sent to Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mohammed Iqbal informing him that PTI MPAs who had tendered their resignations would not appear before the speaker one by one and instead go together.

The letter was sent after PTI members held a meeting in Lahore where they decided not to meet the speaker one by one.

Twenty-nine PTI members in the Punjab Assembly resigned from their seats in late August with the party engaged in protests and sit-ins against the Nawaz government over alleged rigging in the 2013 general elections.

The party has demanded Nawaz Sharif's resignation from prime ministership and has so far been unwilling to back down.

The party is still holding protest rallies in Islamabad on a daily basis and was engaged in talks with the government to broker a settlement over the political impasse, an attempt that failed to yield results. The party also held public meetings in Karachi and Lahore recently, with chairman Imran Khan addressing the crowds in both cities.
