Afghan FC earn narrow win

KARACHI: A first-half strike by Abdul Ali was enough for Afghan FC to secure a 1-0 win over 10-man Muslim FC in an ill-tempered Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) match here on Tuesday.

Ali scored in the 16th minute at the KMC Stadium but was also cautioned 20 minutes from time as Afghan FC began their season with a victory.

Muslim FC, who had opened their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Baloch FC Quetta on Sunday, were reduced to 10 men when Qadir Junior was sent off.

Elsewhere, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) needed a late goal to salvage a 1-1 draw against Wapda as both teams kicked off their season at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.

Veteran striker Arif Mehmood gave Wapda, who finished third last season, the lead 13 minutes from time.

PAF, however, secured a point when Khalid Khan scored in the 87th minute.
