BCDA officials face NAB reference

QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against officials of the Balochistan Coastal Development Authority (BCDA) for alleged embezzlement of over Rs234 million.

A statement issued by the NAB office here on Monday said the provincial government had allocated a huge amount for the `Fish Landing Jetty and Onshore Facilities Project’ to be developed at Dam Bunder near Vinder in district Lasbela between 2006 and 2008. The project aimed to provide facilities to the fishermen community.

The watchdog agency alleged that Mohammad Aazam Pathan, a former director-general of the BCDA, in collusion with the contractor misappropriated millions of rupees that had been released for the project.

It said the NAB had completed its investigation against the former DG of BCDA, Naseer Ahmed Durrani, former chief engineer Shaukat Ali Baloch; former executive engineer Mohammad Naeem Khan, accounts officer Ahmed Pathan, consultant Khadim Hussain, director technical Agha Faisal, contractor of the project and project director Shafqatullah Cheema.
