KARACHI: A charity worker was shot dead while another critically wounded in Orangi Town while they were collecting donations for a welfare hospital located in Punjab on Sunday evening, Mominabad police said.

They added that 35-year-old Saleem Tariq and 40-year-old Hanif Tufail were shot at and wounded at a restaurant in Faqir Colony by armed motorcyclists.

They were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Tariq died during treatment while Tufail was admitted with critical wounds.

The Mominabad police official said the victims were busy collecting donations for the Sahara Hospital, when they were attacked.

“We are also investigating as to whether they have been attacked for being mistaken for police officers since they were wearing clothes of the police uniform colours,” said the officer. The victims hailed from Punjab.
