LAHORE: The Federal Government Inspector of Railways (FGIR) will hold an inquiry into burning of three passenger coaches of Sukkur Express at the Jacobabad railway station.

A decision to the effect was taken at an emergent meeting presided over by Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafique at the Pakistan Railways headquarters in Lahore on Thursday.

The meeting decided to intensify security arrangements at railway stations and other installations besides deployment of commandoes in trains. It was also decided to seek help of law-enforcement agencies and other departments concerned for the purpose.Two economy class coaches of Sukkur Express had caught fire at the Jacobabad railway station two hours before the train was scheduled to depart for Karachi. Fire-fighters had hardly put off the flames when another coach caught fire. According to initial estimates the fire destroyed 90pc of the three coaches, said a spokesperson.
