Commissioner, Miandad attend trophy unveiling ceremony

KARACHI: Commi­ssioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui said here on Thursday that the Pakistani nation is crazy about cricket and millions of fans are eagerly looking forward to the success of national team at the World Cup 2015 which is to be jointly staged by Australia and New Zealand.

He was speaking at the impressive unveiling ceremony of the ICC World Cup Trophy at the Quaid’s Mausoleum.

He was accompanied by prominent personalities including former captain Javed Miandad, director domestic cricket PCB Intikhab Alam, KCCA president Ejaz Faruqi, ICC media manager Sami Burney, event coordinater Asif Azeem, manager NSK Arshad Khan and others.

Shoaib said it is a great honour for Karachi to host the unveiling ceremony of the World Cup trophy and the presence of legendary batsman Miandad, who was part of the World Cup 1992 winning team, makes this occasion very special for everyone.

He pointed out that the staging of National T20 Cup in the city has also generated tremendous interest among the people while foolproof security arrangements have been made to ensure smooth progress of the event. Shoaib added that this will enhance the image of Pakistan and Karachi across the world and pave way for the revival of international sports in the country.

Later, the commissioner and other dignitaries offered Fateha for Quaid-i-Azam.
