Lawyers turn rowdy over grant of remand

LAHORE: A group of lawyers on Wednesday paralysed judicial work at Model Town Courts for hours after a female judicial magistrate remanded a suspect of brawl-cum-aerial firing to police custody.

Samanabad police produced the suspect before the magisterial court concerned and sought physical remand to hold investigation into the case.

Advocate Shahbaz Meraj Gujjar defended the suspect and asked the court to quash the FIR. The lawyer argued that police implicated his client in the fabricated case.

Presiding Officer Sobia Sadiq, however, granted two-day physical remand of the suspect to the police.

At this Advocate Gujjar and his associates got infuriated and started misbehaving with the female judge and also beat the court's reader up. The enraged black coats also locked up all courtrooms suspending the judicial work at Model Town Courts at least for four hours.

However, the lawyers claimed that court staffers closed the courtrooms. Some senior advocates intervened and got the dispute resolved.
