Rape retraction: girl records statement

FAISALABAD: The Madina Town police on Wednesday produced a girl before a judicial magistrate to record her statement regarding withdrawal of rape allegation against three sons of an MNA.

The girl appeared before judicial magistrate Qamar Zaman and claimed no one had raped her.

On Friday last, the girl through an application alleged that three sons of MNA and their six accomplices under the influence raped her at a house in Raza Town.

The police registered a case under Section 376-II of PPC.

The very next day the girl withdrew her statement and claimed nobody had raped her and that she did not want to pursue the case.

The police could not record her statement before the magistrate the same day and asked the girl to leave her version with the investigation officer.

Sources said the matter became a source of worry for the police when Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadri took up the issue in their speeches and denounced the government and the police.

To avoid embarrassment, they said, the Punjab government had asked the police to arrest the girl and the suspects.

They said the girl and her family went into hiding and the police traced the girl after three days to produce her before the magistrate.

Meanwhile, the MNA threatened to tender his resignation as, he said, the police had implicated him in the case with mala fide intention. He asked the policemen to arrest him.

The police said it would be investigated how his name was mentioned in the FIR.

Sources said that before registration of the case, the accused had tried to placate the applicant who threatened to commit suicide in front of the police station if a case was not registered against them.

The police registered a case and took her to DHQ Hospital for her medical examination but she refused to appear before the doctor.
