KOHAT: The National Accountability Bureau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is tightening noose around an incumbent adviser to the chief minister and two former ministers of Pakistan Peoples Party in various corruption cases.

Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, director general KP NAB, Shehzad Saleem, said that inquiries were in progress against the politicians in corruption in housing schemes, induction of labourers in a project and a water scheme.

He said that proofs had been collected in case of former minister for housing and incumbent adviser, Amjid Khan Afridi, and soon he would be arrested. He said that inquiry was also continuing against two former PPP provincial ministers, Sher Azam Khan and Allauddin.

Mr Saleem said that the case of Peshawar’s Ladies Club had come to NAB for investigation. He said that the land was allocated for construction of sports complex on lease of 33 years.

He said that two restaurants were constructed on it and a portion had been leased for a marriage hall to a third person for Rs200,000 a month. The inquiry in the case is almost complete, he said.

The director general said that the chief minister had asked him to arrest every corrupt person irrespective of their position and promised all cooperation to NAB.

SECRETARIAT BUILDING: Visitors to the district secretariat building in posh KDA Town have complained about the lack of sanitation in the building, saying that garbage could be seen everywhere.

There are four blocks of the building and the block housing departments like education, sports and excise and taxation is said to be the dirtiest place to visit.

The staff throws garbage under the stairs, while the power switch boards are broken where birds have made their nests.

This scribe was once sitting with executive district officer, finance, in his office when a bird started singing from behind the air-conditioner. On this the officer said: “When a friend comes the birds start singing.” The visitors have demanded of the authorities to ensure cleanliness at the building.
