‘Kidnapped’ trader found murdered

KARACHI: Police on Tuesday found the body of a trader, who had been kidnapped a couple of days ago, in the Gadap area.

Citizen-Police Liaison Committee chief Ahmed Chinoy said that two suspects were arrested and they led the police to a place in Gadap from where the trader’s body was found.

Mohammed Javed, 58, a resident of the Defence Housing Authority, had been missing since Sept 5 after he returned from a Saddar market, where he had gone for shopping with his sister.

His sister reported the case to the CPLC on Sept 8 when she failed to contact her brother over phone and did not find him at his Defence home, where he was living alone.

The CPLC and the anti-violent crime cell jointly started working on the case and after analysing his cellphone data took two men into custody for questioning. The suspects were among the last four persons who had contacted the victim over phone.

During interrogation, the suspects disclosed that they killed him on Sept 8. They led the police to a desolate spot in Gadap from where the victim’s body was recovered.

Mr Chinoy told Dawn that one suspect, Akram, was familiar with the victim. He invitated him for a meeting somewhere, from where he with the help of his accomplice kidnapped him.

The CPLC chief said that according to suspect Akran, they had also drawn Rs500,000 from the victim’s bank account. However, this would be verified from the bank concerned on Wednesday, he added. He said that they were also searching the previous criminal record of the held suspects.

A case was registered against them at the Darakshan police station.
