Police foil kidnapping bid on doctor

CHARSADDA: Unidentified gunmen on Monday shot dead driver of the Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad chief executive in an attempt to kidnap the doctor, who was later rescued by the local police.

Police on Monday foiled an attempt to kidnap Ayub Medical College Abbottabad chief executive Professor Mohammad Nisar, but the abductors gunned down the driver of the doctor in limits of Nesata Police station here.

District police officer Shafiullah Khan, along with other officials told a press conference here that Professor Mohammad Nisar was on way home after attending his clinic at Kheshgi Lower, his home town, when armed men riding two cars intercepted his vehicle near Samad Qila Dheri Zardad.

The DPO said that police after getting information started chasing the kidnappers, forcing them to escape leaving the doctor in the fields. He said that the police recovered Dr Nisar and launched search for arresting the kidnappers.

The police official identified the victim as a Shahid Steffen.

Talking to mediapersons Dr Nisar said the kidnappers started chasing his vehicle when he left his clinic for home. He said the attackers started firing on his driver when he resisted their attempt to abduct him.

Meanwhile, unknown gunmen shot dead a prayer leader at his hujra on the previous night. The deceased was identified as Gul Zaman.
