2 volunteers hurt in Bajaur blasts

KHAR: Two peace committee members were injured in separate roadside blasts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border here on Saturday.

Officials said that member of a local peace committee was targeted in the border area of Charaming in Nawagai tehsil. They said that Muhibullah Khan along with a group of volunteers of the village defence committee was on a routine duty in the area when a remote controlled bomb planted on a roadside went off, critically injuring him. They added that other volunteers remained unhurt in the explosion.

The injured volunteer was taken to the agency headquarters hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.

Soon after the blast, members of village defence committee and security forces personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

In the second incident occurred in Chamakrand tehsil, an improvised explosive planted along the main gate of the house of Sherzamin Khan, a local peace committee member, went off, leaving him injured.

After the blast, Bajaur Levies and local people reached the spot and launched a joint search operation.

A local administration official told Dawn that at least 20 tribesmen were arrested during the search operation in Chamarkand and Charmang areas.
