Lady health worker shot dead

RAWALPINDI: A lady health worker (LHW) was shot dead at her doorstep in Cantt View Colony on Range Road on Friday.

Police said though the LHW was a member of a polio vaccination team in Fatehjang, they ruled out that the murder had any connection with her job. They said the suspect came to the house of the LHW in the garb of an income tax officer and asked her daughter to send someone older from her family. As soon as the LHW came at the door, the man opened fire on her and escaped.

It may be mentioned here that an attempt had also been made on the lady health worker’s life on July 14. A motorcyclist had shot and injured her at a bus stop on Girja Road, where she was waiting for a van to reach her basic health unit in Fatehjang.

At that time she had been serving as the polio team in-charge.

The victim’s son, Al-Khumash Ali, 18, said as soon as his mother went to the door, the man standing outside shot her.

He said he shifted his mother to District Headquarters Hospital where she died.

SI Yasir Rabbani told Dawn that the deceased did not have any enmity.

He further said the murder of the LHW could not be linked with the polio campaign because there was no drive going on in Fatehjang area.

The officer said the woman had been attacked earlier but at that time, she did not cooperate with police investigation.
