Power supply to Landi Kotal restored after 11 days

LANDI KOTAL: Power supply to Landi Kotal was restored on Tuesday after eleven days of suspension caused by falling of three power pylons by strong winds on August 19.

The Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company (Tesco) officials said that all the uprooted power pylons had been re-erected, restoring electricity supply to the local grid station on Monday night.

They said that technical staff along with local volunteers worked round the clock to restore power supply to Landi Kotal.

Local residents faced hardships due to power suspension for ten days as strong winds had uprooted three pylons near Sur Kamar area in Jamrud on August 19, causing blackout in the entire Landi Kotal tehsil and parts of Jamrud. Local residents also faced acute water shortage as power suspension rendered all tube-wells dysfunctional.

Tesco officials had to arrange heavy earth moving machinery and cranes to re-erect poles and fix the technical fault.

Meanwhile, girls’ students of government communal school, Inayat Kalay on Tuesday staged a demonstration at the press club against shortage of teachers and non-regularisation of the school.

Holding placards inscribed with slogans in support of their demands, students also chanted against the agency education officials.

They told reporters that the directorate of education, Fata, had, a few months back, issued notification regarding regularisation of the school, but the concerned officials were not complying with the orders. The students said that over 200 students were enrolled in the school, but they were without proper building and sufficient teaching staff.
