Valuables, cash looted in five house robberies

LAHORE: Robbers took away, cash, jewellery and other valuables all worth Rs3.1 million in five major strikes in the provincial capital on Tuesday.

Five armed men stormed the house of Abdul Ghafar in Jia Musa, Shahdara police area, held the family on gunpoint and took away Rs700,000. Two robbers barged into the house of Shahbaz Masih in Sunder police jurisdiction and took away Rs390,000 cash.

Two armed men entered the house of Arshad in PIA housing scheme’s E-Block in Satokatla police precinct and looted Rs1000,000. Robbers stormed the house of Fakhar Abbas in Nishat Colony in North Cantonment police area and took away cash and jewellery all worth Rs800,000.

Three armed men took away Rs215,000 from the house of Aamir of Mian Colony in the Harbancepura police area.

Shot dead: A bus terminal manager was allegedly shot dead over an old enmity in Shahdara on Tuesday.

Police said Ghulam Husain, 40, of Kot Shah Dino village was present at his office near Shahdara bus stop when four unidentified men came there and fired on him, killing him on the spot.

Police have shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case.

Station House Officer Muhammad Raza told Dawn that Mr Husain was killed by his political rivals.

Further investigation is under way.

Arrested: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested a line superintendent of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) for taking bribe.

According to officials, the FIA’s anti-corruption circle caught Lesco Jia Bagha line superintendent Jahangir Kashif red-handed while receiving Rs25,000 from a complainant for installing a tube well. A case has been registered against Kashif.
