U-18 baseball team feature in Asian championship

LAHORE: The Pakistan Under-18 baseball team left for Thailand here on Saturday to take part in the Under-18 Asian Baseball Championships scheduled to be held from Sept 1 to 6.

Pakistan have been placed in Group-II along with Korea, Chinese Taipei and Thailand while Japan, Philippines, Sri Lanka and China have been included in Group-I.

Pakistan will play their first match against Thailand on Sept 1 and second against Chinese Taipei on Sept 2 before their last encounter with Koreans on Sept 3 with the team being led by Mohammad Mohsin Jamail.

Also, Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) president retired Lt Gen Arif Hasan urged the players to maintain discipline and show fair play in Thailand to earn good name for the country.

Speaking at a function held by the Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB) in honour of the team, the POA chief said that it was the best opportunity for players to earn international experience before getting place in the national senior team.

PBF president Shaukat Javed said that the team were going to Thailand after attending a fortnight training camp which will help players return with success.
