An Indian Punjabi film, Kaum De Heere, has been banned from screening in any part of the country by the Government of India. The film is about the assassination of a former prime minister Indira Gandhi and her killers Beant Singh, Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh. It shows the assassins in a favourable light which is why, according to reports, the government thought it would create a law and order situation in some parts of India.

Interestingly, the project was cleared on May 29 by the censor authorities’ Mumbai office but was stopped from seeing the light of day on Aug 22.

So much for freedom of expression!
