Terrorists to be rooted out, says army chief

RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif said on Friday that terrorists would be rooted out from their hideouts — even the most treacherous ones and the ones located in far-off areas.

The army chief made these remarks while talking to SSG troops after witnessing the joint field training exercise of Pakistani and Chinese special forces at the headquarters of Special Services Group near Cherat.

He commended the troops for their outstanding performance in war against militancy, particularly Operation Zarb-i-Azb.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the three-week `Warrior-2014’ exercise focused on the joint anti-terrorism training of the special operation forces of Pakistan and China which included airdropping and heli-lifting of special forces, search and rescue, and assault on terrorist strongholds.

Gen Sharif congratulated the participants of both armies on the successful completion of the training exercise and appreciated their high state of morale, courage and professionalism.

Such exercises have immensely helped in enhancing the professional skills and operational preparedness of both the armies against terrorism, he said.

The army chief reiterated that Chinese and Pakistani armies had special relationship which had transformed over time and was only bound to grow.
