ATC adjourns judges detention case till Sept 19

ISLAMABAD: As the Capital police on Friday expressed their inability to escort former president retired General Pervez Musharraf during his appearance in the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC), the ATC Judge adjourned proceedings in the ‘judges detention case’ till September 19.

When the ATC resumed proceedings in the case, the Islamabad police informed the court that due to ongoing crisis, the deployment of policemen for the security of the court as well as for the former president was not possible.

Furthermore, the counsel for Gen Musharraf also informed the court that the former military ruler was not feeling well hence unable to attend the court’s proceedings.

They requested the court to adjourn the proceedings till September 19.

ATC Judge also directed the counsel to make sure that Gen Musharraf is present in the court on next date of hearing.

Public Prosecutor Amir Nadeem Tabish, on the other hand, said the absence of Gen Musharraf from the court proceedings had already caused inordinate delay.

He said that the police were not responsible for producing the under custody accused as Gen Musarraf was a free man therefore it was his responsibility to ensure his attendance.
