Lions to face Khalsa Warriors today

LAHORE: Sports Board Punjab’s Lahore Lions will lock horns with top ranked team of the World Kabaddi League (WKL) Khalsa Warr­iors at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on Saturday.

It will be Lahore Lions’ fourth match in the league.

The Lions won two matches in England and the third in India to maintain unbeaten streak.

In England, the Lions thrashed Canada’s Vancou­ver Lions 74-61 and routed Royal Kings USA 62-50.

The Lahore boys then toppled Punjab Thunder 64-44 in New Delhi on Aug 24.

The Man of the Match awards in all three matches were awarded to Lions’ Shafiq Chishti and Akmal Shahzad Dogar.

Chishti, 24, demonstrated spectacular performance and was adjudged Man of the Match in both matches in England.

He grabbed 21 points against Canada’s Vancouver Lions and 19 against Royal Kings USA while Dogar, who made 19 successful raids against Punjab Thunder, was declared Best Raider of the encounter.

The world’s richest kabaddi league is carrying coveted cash prize of Indian 30.5 million rupees.

The matches are being played phase wise in Eng­land, India, USA, Canada and Pakistan.
