Götterdämmerung

SINCE the emergence of the Red Zone in Islamabad as the epicentre of political upheaval and the birthplace of unconstitutional demands, the country seems to have become a hostage to a misguided few. The people need to be wary of where things are heading.

The political history of Pakistan shows that each coup d’etat has been preceded by protesters chanting similar slogans demanding an end to the status quo, banishing poverty, bringing prosperity and delivering justice at the people’s doorstep. But every movement has passed into oblivion.

As the government has almost surrendered before the protesters’ demands, it is time the PTI and PAT placed before the people their plans for the changes they propose to bring about for a new-order legal system and how they intend to reform criminal law, civil law, and election laws.

Merely screaming and chanting slogans and holding rallies and gatherings will only scare away investors and stampede the local business community out of this country.

The agitators should remember that a revolution eats its children first.
