Chinese engineers’ security beefed up

TOBA TEK SINGH: Security of Chinese engineers and staff has been beefed up and police stations from the Gojra area carried out a search operation in the villages around their residences and offices near Chak 304-JB in the wake of threats of terrorist attacks.

However, no suspect was found during the operation that was supervised by District Police Officer Dr Shahzad Asif.

The police officials also held meetings with prominent figures of the villages and asked them to keep an eye on new entrants and guests in their localities.

Dozens of Chinese nationals have been working on the construction of motorway from Faisalabad to Khanewal for the last two years.

PROTEST RALLY: National Labour Federation (NLF) central president Shamsur Rehman Swati led a protest rally of rickshaw drivers and trade union activists from Shahbaz Chowk to the press club on the Jhang Road to condemn cases against two dozen leaders of rickshaw drivers and the NLF for blocking a road on Tuesday.

Addressing the participants in the rally, Mr Swati and other trade union leaders said labour leaders, including Majeed Salik and Abdul Jabbar Bhuller, were tortured in custody.

They announced if FIRs against labour leaders were not quashed until Sept 5 and cases were not registered again policemen involved in torture a sit-in would also be held outside the CM House in Lahore.
