School set on fire in Panjgur

GWADAR: A private school was set on fire in Panjgur town on Tuesday, reducing furniture, books and other items to ashes.

Armed men entered the Oasis School and torched the principal’s office and staff room, police said, adding that the attackers managed to escape.

A day earlier, men on motorcycles had opened fire on a private school van in Panjgur.

It may be mentioned that an organisation, Al Furqan Islam, had earlier threatened the managements of private schools of dire consequences if they kept their institutions open, resulting in the closure of schools for three months.

The schools reopened recently after Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch promised providing security to them.

However, the Private Schools Association said it was determined to continue its mission of imparting education.
