Leadership quality

IT is a matter of grave concern that the current political unrest has caused colossal economic loss to our nation.

This is no time to blame one another but time to review faults and flaws in our political leaders who, unfortunately, have not learnt lessons from history.

The crucial point here is the quality of the public leader. He must be upright, consistent, responsible and accountable for results in order to seive his society.

Some of our political leaders have not measured up to these qualities, and have not performed well in office. Their actions and inactions have often reflected a commitment for personal gains rather than accelerating the economic development of the country. In exercise of their duties, they have failed to set good examples of honesty and truthfulness and, thus, betrayed the confidence reposed in them.

We cannot move forward unless there is a concerted effort on the part of our leaders to see themselves accountable for their actions and inactions and implement policies that seek the welfare of the citizenry.
