Weekly inflation witnesses slight decline

ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation for the combined income group witnessed a slight decline of 0.36 per cent for the week ending on Aug 21 as compared to the previous week.

The weekly inflation measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) is witnessing decline for the past three consecutive weeks, suggested data compiled by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) here on Friday.

SPI monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of 17 cities and 53 markets.

The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week under review.

For the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000, the SPI witnessed a decline of 0.33pc over the previous week, while inflation for the top income group (Rs35,000 and above) was down by 0.37pc.

However, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed an increase of 6.21pc.

As per statistics, the food items which registered increase in their prices are sugar 2.58pc; potatoes 0.58pc; mash washed 0.58pc; gur 0.41pc; cooked dal 0.38pc and mutton 0.25pc.

The non-food items, which witnessed is LPG 11kg cylinder 0.33pc.
