Robbers killed in crossfire with truck driver

MIANWALI: A dacoit allegedly succumbed to his bullet injuries on Wednesday night following a crossfire with a truck driver in a botched-up dacoity on Mianwali-Kalabagh road while his two accomplices were arrested by police on near Paikhel Town.

As per police sources, Aminullah Khan was driving a cement-laden truck from Iskandarabad cement factory to Lahore. When he reached near Paikhel, three dacoits tried to intercept the vehicle but the driver refused to stop.

The dacoits started indiscriminate firing on the truck that was returned by the driver with his licenced pistol.

During the crossfire, one of the dacoits sustained bullet injuries and was taken into nearby woods by his accomplices. Meanwhile, a patrol party of Paikhel police station, headed by SHO Adnan Jaffry, reached the spot.

On being informed of the fleeing dacoits, the police chased them into the woods.

During the search, the police party found dead body of the injured dacoit who was later identified as Fazlur Rehman Khan.

The police party also arrested his two accomplices -- Majid and Rafiullah.

District Police Officer Mujahid Akbar Khan told Dawn the gunned down dacoit was a symbol of terror in the area and wanted by Mooch, Daukhel and Paikhel police in various dacoity cases.
