From the past pages of dawn: 1944: Seventy years ago: Rousing reception

MONTGOMERY: The deputation led by Nawab Rafiq Ahmad has reached Montgomery and left [on a tour of the] villages. They were given a rousing reception at every village they visited and people gathered around to welcome them and eagerly inquired about their beloved Qaid-e-Azam and the Muslim League.

They have up till now toured 13 villages of Montgomery District. The people were informed about their arrival by the beating of the drum. They addressed many meetings of the villagers and explained the purpose of their visit. The people, who are tired of the fund-collecting campaign of the Unionists, cheered and supported the deputation when they exposed the Unionist fraud before the innocent villagers. Members were enrolled for the League and primary Leagues were formed in every village.

This deputation did great propaganda for the League conference held at Okara where Sardar Shaukat Hayat Khan presided. All the villages around Okara were toured by this deputation in tonga and on foot.

The local League leaders are giving every sort of help to the deputation which has created a good atmosphere for the Hindu-Muslim settlement talks. (Dawn, Delhi)
