Terror bid foiled as 10kg bomb defused in Peshawar's Chamkani

PESHAWAR: A major terrorism bid was foiled in Peshawar's Chamkani area Wednesday when the bomb disposal unit defused a home-made explosive device.

Assistant Inspector General of Police and BDU in-charge Shafqat Malik said the bomb, which was fixed in a pressure cooker and weighed 10 kilograms, was placed in the jurisdiction of Chamkani police station.

He said the apparent target were law enforcement agencies.

Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lies on the edge of Pakistan's tribal areas which have been labelled by Washington as the main sanctuary for Al Qaeda and Taliban militants in the country.

The city has seen frequent attacks by militants in the past few years, with targets ranging from civilians to policemen and other law enforcement personnel.
