KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday announced the remaining three matches in the Taqreeb-e-Azadi Twenty20 Cup have been postponed due to the prevailing uncertain environment in the Punjab.

Following Monday’s unannounced postponement of the fixture between Punjab and Balochistan scheduled at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, the PCB has now opted to put off indefinitely the two matches slated for Lahore on Wednesday and Thursday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were due to face each other at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday before Thursday‘s day-night clash between Punjab and Sindh at the same venue on Pakistan’s 67th Independence Day.

A PCB spokesman told Dawn that the main reason behind the decision was safety of all stakeholders because of the uneasy political situation in the Punjab.

“In the given circumstances the board has decided to call of the remaining [three] games of the six-match series which were part of the Independence Day celebrations,” the spokesman. “This is an unfortunate development over which the board has no control after we had organised three games in Quetta, Peshawar and Karachi smoothly last week.”
