LAHORE: The Pakistan contingent which took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will arrive in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The 63-member Pakistan contingent featured in the Games which are held for former British colonies and claimed three silver medals — one each in boxing, judo and wrestling — and one bronze in wrestling to end 23rd on the medals table.

Pakistan also took part in badminton, gymnastics, shooting, swimming, table tennis and weightlifting events but failed to secure a gold medal.

The contingent made the trip to Glasgow amid great uncertainty, as it only received the a green signal to travel from the Lahore High Court (LHC) just two days before their departure.

Meanwhile, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Sports Board, Federal Minister for IPC, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada stated that Pakistan sports were at a standstill during the last two years owing to the Pakistan Olympic Association’s conflict and so no effective training could be organised for the athletes.

But he added that the participants did their best despite “their problems in training”. A reception in the honour of the contingent will be organised in Islamabad on Aug 8.
