Couple gunned down

CHAKWAL: A couple was shot dead in an alleged case of honour killing, the police said on Saturday.

Both victims were residing in Ashraf Town locality of Chakwal city with their families. Over time they fell in love, but the elders of the family refused to give the woman’s hand in marriage. Resultantly, they both eloped on July 9 and got married in a court. However, the woman’s family registered a kidnapping case with the City Police Station on July 12.

“On Friday, the brothers of the woman traced the couple and picked them up. They took the couple to their native area of Kurar Karahi and shot them near Chakoka village,” said Station House Officer (SHO) Neelah Police Station Sikandar Hayat, while talking to Dawn.

He said both killers disappeared from the scene after committing the murders.

“We have registered a case and are making efforts to trace the murderers,” the SHO said.
