Rain lashes Sindh towns
HYDERABAD: Moderate to light rain started lashing many parts of the province on Friday evening and continued to rain intermittently since then throughout Saturday.
It rained in Hyderabad and its adjoining towns of Jamshoro, Matiari, Tando Mohammad Khan and Tando Allahyar, ending the hot humid spell which had gripped the area since the first day of Eid.
The met office said light rains could not be measured.
Mirpurkhas
The late night rain that continued for three hours inundated all low-lying areas of the city and flooded main all roads and streets. The rainwater got mixed up with sewage which flooded many streets before rains. Heaps of garbage littering many areas have started giving off a foul smell after rain.
Badin
Moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm lashed Badin, Tando Bago, Pangrio, Malkani Sharif, Talhar, Seerani, Kadhan, Golarchi, Nindo Shahar and their adjoining areas late on Friday and Saturday. All low-lying areas were inundated and power went off with the start of rain.
Umerkot
Umerkot and its adjoining areas received moderate rain late on Friday evening which turned the weather pleasant but failed to make growers happy. They termed the delayed rainfall useless for crops and said it would only help grass grow.
Karachi
Badin received the maximum amount of rainfall that started lashing many parts of mainly lower region of the province since Friday, said an official of the meteorological department.
The weatherman forecast similar conditions for Sunday as well. Badin received 23 millimetres (almost an inch) of rainfall on Saturday while Nawabshah and Mirpurkhas received 9 mm each; Chhore that bordered Indian state of Rajasthan received 7 mm; Thatta 4 mm and Hyderabad received 1 mm rain, he said.
He said that rains and thundershowers were expected in isolated places in Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas divisions on Sunday.
