Schools asked to hoist 200 flags each

SHEIKHUPURA: The government has directed each academic institute across the district to hoist 200 national flags on its boundary wall to celebrate Independence Day.

This decision has put heads of government schools and colleges in a dilemma due to non-availability of so many flags in the market.

The headmaster of a high school, on condition of anonymity, told this correspondent so many flags to be hoisted on 1,448 schools and colleges were not available in the market. The government should either provide flags or reduce their number for each institute. He said five to 10 flags were enough to serve the purpose.

Beside educational institutes, the national flag would also be hoisted on every official building beside banks, basic health unit, rural health centre and commercial plazas and shops, according to the government directive.

The DCO, assistant commissioners and other high-ranking officials would be directed to check if the flags had been hoisted on every institute and building.
