Young pilot Haris Suleman laid to rest in US

KARACHI: Young pilot Haris Suleman, who died in a plane crash during an attempt to travel around the world to raise money for education in Pakistan, was laid to rest on Friday in the US state of Indiana, DawnNews reported.

The funeral prayer of Haris was also attended by Pakistan's consul general in Chicago Faisal Niaz Tirmizi.

On this occasion, the Pakistani consul general said that Haris had died for the cause of supporting education for underprivileged children in Pakistan and so he should therefore be regarded as a martyr.

Meanwhile, Tirmizi said that Haris had raised one million dollars to increase awareness for the education of underprivileged children in Pakistan.

He added that Haris should be nominated for a high civil award in recognition of his services.

Haris had hoped to set the record for the fastest circumnavigation around the world, in a single-engine airplane with the youngest pilot in command but his life was cut short when his plane crashed in the sea on his way from Hawaii to California. His journey also was a fundraiser to help build schools in Pakistan.
