Teachers oppose posting at far-flung places

BAHAWALPUR: A large number of male and female teachers of government schools took out a protest rally near University Chowk on Monday against the Punjab government’s rationalisation policy.

The teachers drawn from different places of the district raised slogans against the policy and the government, demanding implementation of the high court decision of “one teacher and promotion policy 2014”.

Talking to the media, Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) Bahawalpur President Chaudhry Wilayat and other office-bearers said under the pretext of rationalisation policy, the government teachers were being posted at far-flung places. For this purpose, local officials of the education department have sought teachers’ particulars.

The protesters demanded that elementary school teachers (EST) should not be posted in primary schools and instead high court’s verdict of 2010 be enforced, which prevented the education department from the posting of ESTs in far-off places.

VC: The acting vice-chancellor of Islamia University (IUB), Prof Dr Salim Tariq, has been given the additional charge of the Government Sadiq Women University, Bahawalpur.
