Pillion riding banned for Eid in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh government on Sunday decided to impose a five-day ban on pillion riding in Karachi starting from from today Sunday, July 27 to ensure security on the occasion of Islamic festival of Eidul Fitr.

Sindh home department, in a notification issued today said that the ban on pillion riding will remain in effect till midnight August 1.

Provincial Home Secretary Niaz Abbasi said the ban would come into effect immediately.

Security agencies had asked the city administration to impose pillion riding ban to avert any untoward incident due security threats ahead of Eid.

There were reports of terror activity ahead of the holy festival, sources said. Senior citizens, journalists, women and personnel of law enforcement agencies will be exempted from the ban.
