Call to extend vehicle tax submission dates

OKARA: Vehicles owners have demanded extension in date for submission of token tax as post offices and excise and taxation offices have started collection of amounts from July 21.

Dawn learnt the provincial government notified an increase in the duty 70 to 100 per cent and issued a notification on July 20.

With the inception of July, vehicle owners contacted relevant departments like post offices and excise and taxation offices for the submission of the amounts, but they were told to wait till July 20.

As one week is left, an influx of vehicle owners can be seen at post offices. They say the first 20 days of July have lapsed and five days are available to pay their tax as four Eid holidays will begin from July 28.

The other problem is short working hours of post offices due to Ramazan. Loadshedding also keeps the working shut after every one hour.

Vehicle owners demanded the provincial government extend the grace period for the easy payment of token tax.

FUNDS: The Markazi Anjman Tajiran contributed Rs4.2 million to the Chief Minister Punjab’s Relief Fund for North Waziristan’s displaced people.

The Citizen Council donated Rs2 million to the army.

Traders’ representatives Muhammad Saleem Sadiq presented the cheque to Additional Commissioner Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf.

Citizen Council Chairman Haji Abdul Hameed presented the cheque to Col Arshad Mahmood and Maj Farooq for the Army Relief Fund.
