Jamal inspires Advance Telecom into last four
KARACHI: Inspired by an unbeaten Jamal Anwar half century, Advance Telecom qualified for the semi-finals of the 29th Karachi Gymkhana Omar Associates Ramazan Cricket Festival here on Wednesday.
Advance Telecom emerged winners in the third quarter-final at the Karachi Gymkhana Ground against Soni Associates by 41 runs.
Batting first, Advance Telecom recovered from the loss of opener Mukhtar Ahmed for a second-ball duck to post 158-7 in their allotted 20 overs. Man-of-the-match Jamal played brilliantly to score 52 with his 34-ball innings laced with four boundaries and a brace of sixes.
Medium-pacer S.M. Zafar and slow left-armer Rizwan Qureshi each claimed two wickets.
Soni Associates, in reply, were all out for 117 in the 18th over with Zafar making 25.
Leg-spinner Osama Mir took 3-30.
Meanwhile, Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) sealed the remaining last-eight berth by defeating Heroes CC by five wickets.
Opener Ashraf Ali was adjudged man-of-the-match for a 47-ball 62 (six fours and two sixes) while Mohammad Afzal struck an unbeaten 44 (42 balls, two fours and one six) as DIB reached their target of 127 in 19 overs.
