PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Tuesday said his government had been taking tangible steps for the people’s welfare in the province.

He said this after the launch of the Sasta Aata and Ghee Package meant for provision of subsidised flour and ghee to the poor people in the province, at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan attended the function as the chief guest, while the provincial ministers, MNAs, MPAs, traders community, the elite of the city and higher officials of the provincial government also attended.

The chief minister said the PTI-led coalition government was fulfilling the party’s every election commitments.

CM says insurance policy for poor people also on the cards

“We’ve not only achieved success in the eradication of corruption and in the mission of changing the system but also we’ve taken solid steps for raising the living standard of the people, especially the poor people,” he said.

Khattak said in the budget for financial year 2014-15, his government had announced a Rs7 billion special programme for provision of subsidised flour and ghee to the poor people.

“Under the programme, 5.6 million people identified as poor would be given a subsidy of Rs10 per kg on purchase of 40kg flour and Rs40 per kg on purchase of five kg ghee per month.

The families will be issued two vouchers valuing Rs600 per month through which they could purchase these commodities from their nearby utility store,” he said.

The chief minister said the provincial government had also planned an insurance policy for the head of every poor family.

He said under that policy, said an amount of Rs0.1million would be paid in case of accidental death and Rs50,000 in case of physical death to the heirs of the deceased.

Khattak said the Almighty Allah had blessed the province with huge natural resources, which included huge potentials of hydel power, oil and gas, minerals, forests, tourism, culture, trade and abundance of skilled and cheap manpower.

He said the provincial government was making efforts for the scientific utilisation of the precious natural resources.

The chief minister said his government would soon put the province on the road to progress and economic stability with active support of the allied parties, legislators and people at large so that the province didn’t depend on others in future.He made a mention of steps his government had taken for the people’s welfare and development of various sectors of economy.

Khattak also highlighted his government’s steps for resolving energy shortage for both domestic and commercial consumers.

He said his government would change the system and ensure supremacy of merit and law in the province.
