No IDP sleeps hungry in Bannu, Maj Gen Rao

BANNU: Major General Akhtar Jamil Rao, General Officer Commanding of 45 Engineers Division of the Pakistan Army, said on Tuesday that every possible facility was being provided to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the North Waziristan tribal region, DawnNews reported.

Maj Gen Rao addressing the media in Bannu said that 84 per cent of the IDPs had reached Bannu whereas 5,500 displaced families had moved to Dera Ismail Khan. He added that more than 50,000 families could not be registered as they had not been verified.

The GOC added that 74 per cent of the IDPs were women and children.

He said ration had been distributed to the 650,000 displaced persons who had reached Bannu and none of them were left hungry, adding that the aid was handed over to the head of each respective family.

The major general said the construction of schools, document verification centres and sewerage facilities was underway at the camp.

He said facilities would be provided in North Waziristan on the same scale as Swat, adding that reconstruction of North Waziristan would take place after the completion of the ongoing operation in the region.

Pakistan's military launched Zarb-i-Azb operation against Taliban militants in North Waziristan Agency following a brazen attack on Karachi International Airport and failure of peace talks between govt and Taliban nominated negotiators.

More than 992,649 IDPs belonging to 90,750 families had been registered since the beginning of the operation.
