Uptick in weekly inflation

ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation for the combined income group increased by 0.23 per cent for the week ending July 10 over the the previous week.

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data on Friday showed that inflation, measured through the Sensitive Price Index (SPI), witnessed an increase for the past six consecutive weeks.

SPI monitors prices of 53 items based on the survey of 17 cities and 53 markets.

The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week. For the lowest income group up to Rs8,000 the SPI declined by 0.24pc, while for the income group Rs35,000 and above it rose 0.23pc over the previous week.

However, the SPI for the combined group witnessed an increase of 6.95pc when compared with corresponding week last year.

The price of bananas jumped by 2.11pc, egg 1.88pc, sugar 1.75pc, garlic 1.61pc, onions 1.10pc, chicken 1.03pc, wheat 0.65pc, wheat flour 0.59pc, beef 0.54pc, gur (Jaggery) 0.36pc, salt powder 0.30pc, mutton 0.22pc, mustard oil 0.11pc, and gram pulse washed 0.04pc.

The LPG 11-kg cylinder price rose by 4.04pc, cigarettes 2pc, georgette 0.72pc, shirting 0.57pc, washing soap 0.50pc, and kerosene 0.01pc.
