Norway to give aid for Punjab police

ISLAMABAD: The Norwegian government has entered into an agreement with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), pledging $700,000 for enhancing the training and investigation capacity of the Punjab police department.

The UNODC with the support of Norway has been supporting the Punjab government to improve technical capacity of its law-enforcement personnel.

Cesar Guedes, the UNODC’s country director, and Ambassador Cecilie Landsverk of Norway signed the agreement to this effect on Thursday. Funds will be used to improve the investigation capacity of police in Gujrat, Gujranwala and Sialkot and provide support to crime scene units.

The basic and specialised training offered to recruits in police academies need attention and the Norwegian assistance is meant to fulfil this purpose.
