Doctor thrashed at GB hospital

GILGIT: Relatives of a patient thrashed and injured a doctor at the district headquarters hospital here for not providing timely treatment to him, which allegedly caused his death on Tuesday night.

An official of local health department told Dawn that Safeerudin, 43, of Jagolot Gilgit, was admitted to DHQ hospital on Tuesday evening after he got injured in a road accident.

He said there was only one doctor, Mohammad Shoib, during the evening shift, adding that when the doctor reached the medical ward, where the injured patient was admitted to, after visiting other patients in the hospital, he (the injured) had already died.

Afterwards, the official said, a dozen of enraged family members of the deceased attacked the doctor, injuring him seriously. He said that people standing nearby rescued the doctor from the attackers. He said that the doctor was admitted to hospital in unconscious condition.
