THE importance of educational institutions, especially institutions of higher learning, cannot be denied in the modern world as they determine the destiny of a nation. But, it is a great tragedy that our government is busy in building roads and bridges while ignoring universities and libraries.

Sialkot is one of the richest cities of Pakistan, but, unfortunately, there is no public university in the city and the only public library is in a shambles due to a lack of funds as well as indifferent attitude of its management. Hence, the people have to send their children to other cities for higher education.

The city has the potential to boost our staggering economy if its residents are provided opportunities for higher learning. I request the Punjab chief minister to give attention to the issue.
