Teacher’s husband held for beating up student

RAWALPINDI: The husband of a teacher at a private school was arrested on charges of torturing a fifth class student, police said.

Hamza, a student at a private school in Morgah, did not inform his parents about the treatment meted out to him due to fear of his teacher. He even requested his sister not to tell their parents after she saw burn marks on his body.

Mohammad Suleman, the boy’s father, told Dawn that his son was taking tuitions from a teacher at her home.

Last Friday, Hamza had gone to her teacher’s house but returned early, telling his mother that he had fallen on the way. Thinking that he was making excuses, his mother took him back and dropped him at the teacher’s house.

After the teacher’s husband returned home she complaint to him about her student which infuriated him.

The boy’s father alleged that the man beat up his son, hanged him with a rope tied to the ceiling and then placed hot iron on him.

After Hamza’s sister told her parents, the boy’s father decided to confront the teacher and stopped his son from studying there.

When he asked the teacher about the treatment, she and her husband apologised to him and requested him not to take the matter to the police. However after consulting his officers, Suleman went to the police and formally lodged a complaint against the teacher’s husband.

When the police was contacted, they said the teacher’s husband had been arrested after medical reports confirmed that the boy was tortured.
