Junior tennis commences
ISLAMABAD: Twenty matches were decided on the opening day of the first ACPL National Junior Hard Court Tennis Championship here at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Thursday.
Unseeded Yawar Abbas of Islamabad defeated fifth seed Hafiz Arbab 6-3, 6-4 in a major upset with Shaeer-ul- Haq Hamad of Mangla getting walkover against sixth seed Abdal Haider of Lahore.
Also, all the other remaining seeded players moved into the second round winning their respective matches in straight sets.
Karachi’s Nazif Ahmed struggled to win his encounter against Mir Shahzaib in a thrilling three-set match which lasted one-and-a-half hours. Ibrar-ul-Haq eliminated aRehmat Ali of Peshawar in another three-set match of the day.
Earlier, Pakistan Sports Board director general Dr Mohammad Akhtar Nawaz Genjera inaugurated the opening ceremony.
