Two terrorists, passerby killed in Peshawar encounter

PESHAWAR: Three persons including two terrorists were killed in an encounter in Mattani Bazaar on the outskirts of Peshawar early on Sunday morning, police said.

They said that four local people also got injuries in the crossfire while a terrorist was arrested in wounded condition.

Rural Circle SP Shakir Bangash told journalists that a group of armed persons attacked a police party in the bazaar. Police gunned down two assailants in retaliatory firing, he added.

The official said that a terrorist was arrested in injured condition. Five local people were also injured in the firing and they were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, he added.

However, one of them succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The SP said that police also recovered a hand grenade and a pistol from the possession of the attackers. He claimed that the assailants were wanted by police in several cases of targeted attacks.

Another source in the police department said that the killed terrorists were identified as Zahid, a resident of Adenzai, and the other as Ilyas Sadiq Kochi, an Afghan national.

A passerby identified as Arif, who was injured in the firing, succumbed to his injuries in Lady Reading Hospital, he added.

The source said that following the encounter police conducted a search operation in the area and arrested six suspected persons.

BLASTS: Two bombs of low intensity went off in Mohalla Marveeha on City Circular Road near the rickshaw stand on Sunday.

Police sources said that the explosive devices were planted in a garbage dump, however, the blasts caused no harm to people.

Interestingly, this scribe contacted three police stations -- Yakatoot, Agha Mir Jani and Kotwali -- to get information but the officials of every police station said that the area didn’t fall in their limits. They said that they would not register case of the blasts as the site was out of their jurisdiction.

GUARD KILLED: A private security guard at a filling station was shot dead by unidentified armed men in the small hours of Sunday in the limits of Yakatoot police station.

A police official said that the security guard, identified as Mutabar Khan, belonged to Shabqadar area of district Charsadda. Quoting a worker of the filling station, he said that two men riding a motorcycle came and opened fire on the security guard and escaped.

Meanwhile, a woman was killed inside her house in Shah Pur village in the limits of Chamkani police station on Sunday morning.

An official said that the woman identified as Riasat Bibi was found dead inside her house. Following a complaint by her father Mohammad Hussain, police arrested three people including her husband Fazl Khaliq, his brother Taimur and his nephew Azim Khan. The complainant said that the woman was mother of three children.
